Packers answer the big question about their draft approach

The Green Bay Packers seemed to confirm with their approach in the NFL Draft that they were not happy with their wide receiver group last season, which led to some questions about how they view Jayden Reed. Those have apparently been answered.

Reed, a second-round pick two years ago, operated as Green Bay's No. 1 wide receiver last season. It seems like he was concerned after the Packers drafted former Texas wide receiver Matthew Golden in the first round and former TCU wide receiver Savion Williams in the third round last month.

On Monday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Packers GM Brian Gutekunst met with Reed's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, last week to clarify that the team still considers Reed to be its top wideout.

Reed was Green Bay's leading receiver last year with 55 catches and 857 yards. His six touchdown receptions were second on the team behind tight end Tucker Kraft's seven. The former Michigan State star also had a rushing touchdown.

Reed had 64 catches for 793 yards and 10 total touchdowns (two rushing) as a rookie. He has been one of Jordan Love's favorite targets, but is he a true No. 1 receiver? The Packers may have their doubts about that.

For now, Reed remains at the top of the depth chart. Golden and Williams will have to prove themselves, but it is probably safe to assume Reed had some concerns about his spot in the pecking order. Otherwise, the Packers probably would not have had to meet with Reed's agent to discuss it.
