After a career full of ups and downs, Colorado Rockies outfielder Mickey Moniak is looking like he is finally turning into the major league-caliber player he was expected to be when picked first overall in the 2016 MLB Draft.
Currently slashing .245/.295/.500 with 11 home runs and 27 RBI in 66 games, Moniak is on pace to shatter his career-high of 14 home runs he had in both 2023 and 2024.
Over his last 12 games, he is hitting .319 with six home runs, 12 RBI and two stolen bases, including multiple big hits for a struggling Rockies team.

After slashing .157/.218/.268 with four home runs and 11 RBI in 66 games from 2020-22, the Philadelphia Phillies decided to move on from Moniak by trading him to the Los Angeles Angels.
During his time with the Angels, Moniak showed major improvement, posting a .246/.283/.431 slash line with 28 home runs over 209 games.
Despite his improvements, he was ultimately released after winning his arbitration case and was then signed two days later by the Rockies.
So far, he has rewarded the Rockies with what could potentially be a career year for the 27-year-old and could be an under-the-radar target for teams at the trade deadline if the Rockies look to capitalize on his breakout.
Showing impressive pop from the left side, it looks like the pressure of being the first overall pick is starting to wear off for Moniak and the game is starting to slow down.
While he might not hit the level expected of a high draft pick, Moniak is showing that he might be able to carve out a very respectable career in the big leagues.
Moniak has become one of the best storylines from the first half of the 2025 season and will look to continue this form as the All-Star break approaches.
